Roland Dorcély

1930 – 2017

 

Born in Port-au-Prince, Roland Dorcély joined the Centre d’Art in 1946 and traveled to France to study with French painters Fernand Léger and André Masson.  He later joined the Foyer des arts Plastiques in Haiti and in 1954 started the Brochette School of Art with artist Luckner Lazard. 

He resided in both France and Haiti unit finally settling in Haiti in 1969. Throughout this period, he exhibited in France and the United States and was awarded First Prize in 1947 at a Haitian exhibition by President Estimé Dumarsais.

Dorcély’s art is exhibited in the permanent collections of the Museums of Modern Art in New York and Paris as well as numerous private collections around the globe.
